Renovation Cost Breakdown
This is a pretty highly anticipated post from us, huh guys?! I know that we have answered questions about costs a lot on a personal level with many of you individually, but I figured it was time to make an actual cost break down post for everyone to see, and if I miss anything or you think or any questions, feel free to comment below and I will try to be better at answering them!
Karlton and I sat down and made a big list of everything that we renovated and what it all cost, and we came up with a total of $4,000.00. We tried to be as accurate as possible with everything, but unfortunately, we didn't keep track of our costs as we went, so there were some aspects that we just had to round up and estimate. In reality, we probably came in a little under $4,000, but we rounded everything up to the high end for the sake of this post.
So, just to preface: We had never done anything like this before. We didn't have any experience doing any sort of renovating or construction or anything. We had watched a lot of hgtv in the year we were planning and doing our research before we purchased our motorhome, but again, no real life experience whatsoever. Things are not prefect and we definitely didn't build 'up to code' or whatever rules you're supposed to abide by; if that is even a thing in RVs. We knew that we wanted our space to feel like home, and we had a general idea of the direction we wanted to go with the aesthetic. We just went for it, with no real plan set in place. Pretty much everything that we had to custom build was done on-the-spot, while we were standing in the middle of utter destruction looking at the square footage that we were allotted for said project. There were countless runs back and forth to Home Depot and Lowes, and most of the time it was because we bought the wrong sized so and so, or we needed 2 more whatevers. It was never frustrating though; like there was never a time where we were like ready to give up or wondered if we were making the right choice. All in all, it was an awesome experience and it was a fun project that we enjoyed doing together. Most construction days, we had music playing and we had fun working together towards this weird, unconventional goal we shared.

A lot of people ask how we like our peel and stick flooring, and I think it turned out great. It was definitely the cheaper (if not, cheapest) option being only 98 cents per sq ft, and I think they look perfect! We did notice that in the beginning, they wanted to curl up and not stay stuck down flat, but after a few weeks of walking around on them they seemed fine. We don't have any problems with them now, and I would use them again in the future!
We also get asked about our tiling a lot, for some reason? Everyone seems to freak out when they see that we have genuine ceramic tiles in an RV. I'm not really sure why, I guess because we move around and that could somehow affect the integrity of the tiles? Our tiles are like the absolute last thing we worry about when we are on the move. They aren't going anywhere! I couldn't rip them off if I tried - I would have to take a hammer to them. I just really wanted legit ceramic tiles; the peel and stick tiles just didn't cut it for me. You could push them in with your finger. Nope, not in my house!
Hmm, what else. Our kitchen countertop and our desk counter top are both from IKEA, and we absolutely love them. They add just the right amount of that rustic wood element in here. They are very high-use and have withstood the test of time very well! The countertop we used in our bathroom was just a repurposed piece of wood from another piece of furniture that we had from our apartment before, so the only thing we really had to pay for in the bathroom was the sink and the faucet.
